About Saint-Vic Museum
The Musée Saint-Vic occupies a 13th-century mansion on Cours Manuel that has served as an abbots' residence, a convent, and a prison before becoming a museum in 1940. Its six chronological rooms trace 100,000 years of regional history across the Berry and Bourbonnais, from prehistoric stone tools to 20th-century art. The permanent collection holds nearly 20,000 objects including Gallo-Roman archaeological finds, 18th-century drawings, ceramics, furniture, military artifacts, and regional folk art.

The museum was founded by Théogène Chavaillon, a local pharmacist who also established the Municipal School of Art in 1922. He served as the museum's first curator while running his pharmacy, assembling much of the initial collection through personal research and community donations.
