About Orléans Church of Saint-Pierre-le-Puellier
The oldest surviving church in Orléans, built in the 12th century in Romanesque style with later Gothic additions to the choir. Deconsecrated in 1958, the building now serves as a free municipal contemporary art exhibition space managed by the City of Orléans, hosting 4 to 5 rotating exhibitions per year. The five-bay nave with two side aisles preserves original Romanesque elements, while the 13th-century choir features elegant rib vaults and carved oak-leaf capitals.

The name "le Puellier" comes from the Latin word puellaris, meaning "of young girls" or "of pupils." It reflects the church's medieval location in the university quarter of Orléans, which was one of France's most important centers of legal studies during the Middle Ages.
