About Church of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul of Blois
Originally built between 1626 and 1677 as the chapel of the royal Jesuit college founded by Louis XIII, this Baroque church stands just a three-minute walk from the Château de Blois. The facade features three tiers of classical pilasters in Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders linked by wide volutes, following the Jesuit Counter-Reformation style modeled after the Gesù in Rome. Inside, visitors find colorful vaulted ceilings in pink, blue, red, and gold, six lateral chapels with stucco ornaments, and a sculpted altarpiece from 1670 by Gaspard Imbert depicting the Apparition of the Virgin.

During the French Revolution, the church was stripped of its religious function and converted into a Temple of Liberty. It then served as a barracks for military volunteers during the Reign of Terror, and the interior was ransacked. Catholic worship did not resume until 1826, nearly 40 years later.
