About Grottes du Foulon
The Grottes du Foulon are a natural limestone cave system extending roughly 500 meters beneath the town of Châteaudun, about 130 km southwest of Paris. Formed through karstic erosion of Senonian chalk dating to the Upper Cretaceous period, the caves contain flint geodes with blue chalcedony crystals and quartz formations. Paleolithic stone tools found on-site indicate human habitation as far back as 300,000 years ago, and four display cases present artifacts from this period.
