About Prébendes d'Oé Garden
A 5-hectare English-style landscape garden in central Tours, designed by the Bühler brothers (who also created Lyon's Parc de la Tête d'Or) and opened in 1874. The garden features a central pond with two islands and wooden bridges, mature trees including cedars of Lebanon and giant sequoias, and seasonal flower beds replanted twice yearly with around 8,000 plants. Statues of Loire Valley poets Pierre de Ronsard and the Marquis de Racan stand among the paths.

The garden was created as a public works relief project in 1872 to provide employment during the economic crisis following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. The municipal council voted on December 27, 1870 to develop the marshy site specifically to put unemployed workers back to work.
