About Natural History Museum of Tours
The Natural History Museum of Tours occupies an 18th-century former courthouse in the heart of Vieux-Tours, near Place Plumereau. The museum's original collections were entirely destroyed during the 1940 bombardment of the city, and the current exhibitions were rebuilt from scratch, reopening in 1989. Spread across 1,000 square metres on four levels, the permanent galleries display taxidermied animals arranged by phylogenetic classification — from arthropods to mammals — alongside regional fossils and geological specimens from the Touraine.

Bobby the grey seal lived at the Tours Botanical Garden from 1953 to 1992, becoming a local celebrity over his 39 years in residence. After his death, he was taxidermied and placed in the museum, where he remains one of the most recognized exhibits.
