About Sologne Museum
The Sologne Museum occupies three historic water mills on the Sauldre river in the center of Romorantin-Lanthenay. Founded in 1882 by Ovide Scribe, the collection grew from his personal holdings to over 5,000 pieces covering the natural environment, traditional crafts, hunting culture, and daily life of the Sologne region. The main building, the Moulin du Chapitre, once served as a chocolate factory and flour mill before its conversion.

Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life in nearby Amboise and drew up detailed plans for Romorantin as a new royal capital for François I. The project included a network of canals linking the Sauldre to the Loire and a grand palace complex. It was abandoned around 1519 when Leonardo died and François shifted his ambitions to Chambord instead.
