About Belfry of Dreux
The Belfry of Dreux is a 35-meter-tall tower built between 1512 and 1537 in the historic center of the city. Three architects worked on it over 25 years, producing a building that transitions from late Gothic on the ground floor to early Renaissance on the upper levels. It served as Dreux's town hall for nearly 400 years until 1900, when the growing population required a larger building.

The belfry's 3.5-ton bronze bell has been silent since November 11, 1918 — Armistice Day ending World War I. Its massive weight risks collapsing the 15-meter-high medieval wooden framework that supports it, so the bell was permanently stopped after ringing to celebrate the end of the war.
