About Marcel Dessal Museum of Art and History
Housed in a former late 19th-century chapel in the centre of Dreux, this municipal museum covers fine arts, archaeology, and decorative arts from the region. The permanent collection includes a large-format Claude Monet canvas, "Étude de Glycines" (Study of Wisteria), donated in 1964 by the painter's son Michel Monet, who lived nearby. Other holdings range from Romanesque capitals and Gothic stained glass from the former Collegiate Church of Saint-Étienne to 19th-century paintings by Marius Granet, Henri Le Sidaner, and Maurice de Vlaminck.

The museum's Monet canvas, "Étude de Glycines," is directly related to the famous Water Lilies cycle. It was donated by Michel Monet, the painter's son, who settled in nearby Sorel-Moussel. This makes Dreux one of very few small French towns to hold a major Monet work of this scale — roughly one by two metres.
