About Botanical Garden of Tours
9 hectares near Boulevard Tonnellé and serves as both a public park and a scientific research site managed jointly by the city and university. The garden contains over 150 tree species in its arboretum, themed sections including a medicinal plants garden, an evolution garden tracing plant history, and a Japanese-inspired area linked to Tours' sister city Takamatsu. Three Biodivers greenhouses shelter threatened South African flora, tropical understory plants, and useful crops like cocoa, vanilla, and coffee.

The greenhouse renamed "Serre Jeanne Barret" in 2022 honours a woman from the Touraine region who, in 1766, disguised herself as a man to join Bougainville's expedition and became the first woman to circumnavigate the globe. She collected hundreds of botanical specimens during the voyage, and the bougainvillea plant takes its name from that same expedition.
