About Beaugency Caesar's Tower
Caesar's Tower is an 11th-century square keep standing 36 meters tall on Place Dunois in Beaugency. Built by Lancelin I, Lord of Beaugency, between 1015 and 1030, it served as both a military fortification and lordly residence for over three centuries. The tower was expanded at least four times through the early 14th century, with each phase adding height, windows, and monumental fireplaces.

Despite its name, the tower has no connection to Julius Caesar. Medieval French tradition commonly attributed imposing old structures to Caesar as a way of explaining their origin. In reality, the tower was built over a thousand years after Caesar's time, by a local feudal lord.
