About Château de Beauregard
Château de Beauregard is a Renaissance castle located in Cellettes, 8 km south of Blois in the Loire Valley. Originally built around 1495 as a manor house, it was later used by François I as a hunting lodge and substantially rebuilt in the mid-16th century by Jean du Thier, Secretary of State to Henri II. The château's centrepiece is the Galerie des Illustres — a 26-metre gallery containing 327 portraits of European figures spanning 1328 to 1643, set above 5,500 Delftware floor tiles depicting military regiments.

The lapis lazuli pigment used for the Portrait Gallery ceiling was valued at seven times the price of gold when it was applied in the 1620s-1630s. The painter Jean Mosnier was commissioned by Marie Ardier to decorate the ceiling, making it one of the most expensive decorative projects of its era in a private residence.
