About Château de Cheverny
Château de Cheverny is a 17th-century Loire Valley castle built between 1624 and 1634 in Louis XIII classical style, using pale Bourré limestone that gives it a distinctive white appearance. The Hurault family has owned the estate for over six centuries, making it one of the longest continuously family-owned châteaux in France. It opened to the public in 1922, one of the first private residences in the country to do so.

Hergé never actually visited Cheverny. He discovered the castle in a tourist guide and removed its two lateral wings when drawing Moulinsart, keeping only the central building. This simplified silhouette became one of the most recognizable fictional buildings in European comics.
