About Château de Villesavin
Château de Villesavin was built between 1527 and 1537 by Jean le Breton, Secretary of State under King François I, who oversaw the construction of nearby Chambord. " Located just 9 km from Chambord in Tour-en-Sologne, the estate includes a chapel with 16th-century frescoes, a Carrara marble fountain with chimera motifs in the central courtyard, and a rare Renaissance dovecote with 1,500 nesting holes. Visitors can explore several on-site museums including a Wedding Museum documenting matrimonial traditions and a Carriage Museum with historical horse-drawn vehicles.

The dovecote at Villesavin is one of the few in France to survive the Revolution of 1789 intact. After the Revolution, dovecotes were seen as symbols of aristocratic privilege because only nobles had the right to keep pigeons, so most were demolished. Villesavin's dovecote still contains its original revolving ladder mechanism, which allowed a single person to reach all 1,500 nesting holes by pushing off from the walls.
