About Grand Aquarium of Touraine
The Grand Aquarium of Touraine sits on a former troglodytic farm site in Lussault-sur-Loire, about 5 minutes by car from Amboise along the Loire cycling route. Founded in 1989 by Jean-Claude and Martine Borelly, it has grown into one of the largest freshwater aquariums in France, now managed by the Looping Group. The facility holds 2 million litres of water across 70 tanks, housing over 300 species and thousands of individual animals.

The aquarium's shark display is themed around Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's plane, a nod to the Loire Valley's connection to the author of 'The Little Prince'. Saint-Exupéry grew up partly in the region and the wreck-style set design creates an unusual backdrop for watching blacktip reef sharks swim past.
