About Hôtel Cabu — Museum of History and Archaeology
The Hôtel Cabu is a Renaissance mansion built around 1547–1550 for lawyer Philippe Cabu, with architecture attributed to Jacques I Androuet du Cerceau. The building houses Orléans' museum of history and archaeology, featuring collections that span from Gallo-Roman antiquity to the modern period. Its centerpiece is the Trésor de Neuvy-en-Sullias, a cache of around forty Gallo-Roman bronze sculptures discovered in 1861, including a horse with a Latin dedicatory inscription and the "Grande Danseuse" figurine.

The building is sometimes called the "Maison de Diane de Poitiers" after a legend claiming that King Henry II's royal favourite stayed here in 1551 to recover from a horse-riding accident. Historians consider this story an embellishment — the mansion was built for a lawyer, not for royal visitors — but the nickname stuck and helped preserve the building's prestige over the centuries.
