About Picois Gate
The Porte Picois is a 15th-century fortified gateway forming part of the medieval defensive walls of Loches's lower town. Built around 1440-1450 under Charles VII after the Hundred Years' War devastated the area, the gate features a pointed Gothic arch wide enough for carts alongside a separate pedestrian passage. Its exterior was originally defended by a portcullis and two drawbridges spanning the town moat.

It was classified jointly with the adjacent Renaissance Hôtel de Ville, reflecting how closely the two buildings are tied architecturally and historically.
