About Church of Our Lady of Vierzon
This Gothic church sits on the heights of Vierzon's medieval quarter, built in the 15th century over the foundations and lateral walls of a 12th-century structure. The 13th-century bell tower-porch at the western facade serves as both the entrance and the bell housing, an unusual architectural feature. Inside, visitors can see 19th-century ribbed vaults with decorative pendants, a 15th-century Crucifixion stained glass window classified as a Historic Monument, and a painting of Saint John the Baptist by Berry-region artist Jean Boucher from 1604.

The 12th-century lateral walls were not demolished during the 15th-century reconstruction but instead repurposed. Builders pierced them with large pointed-arch arcades, turning the original exterior buttresses into interior pillars that now separate the nave from the side aisles. This layering makes the church a readable timeline of medieval construction techniques across four centuries.
