About Orléans Botanical Garden
5-hectare public park on the south bank of the Loire, tracing its origins to a medicinal plant garden established by the Society of Apothecaries in 1640. The garden moved to its current location in 1834 and was redesigned by city architect François-Narcisse Pagot, who added a neoclassical orangery inspired by Kew Gardens. Visitors can explore tropical greenhouses, a palm grove, seven climate-themed gardens (alpine, Mediterranean, aquatic), an Impressionist colour garden based on Chevreul's colour theory, and a rose garden that hosts the annual International Rose Competition since 1959.

Around 1950, Orléans supplied over a quarter of all roses grown in France, earning the city the title of France's rose capital. The garden sits on the Route de la Rose du Loiret, a thematic trail connecting the region's major rose-growing sites.
